The vehicle identification number (VIN) is composed of 17 characters (digits and capital letters) that act as a unique identifier for the vehicle. A VIN displays the car's unique features, specifications and manufacturer.
The VIN can be found in a couple of places including on the car's registration label (1), on the compliance plate in the engine bay (2) or on the passenger side windshield (3), or on one of the door posts (where the door latches when it is closed) (4). See the image below:
If you’re looking for a used car in the state of Queensland (QLD), you should always conduct a REVS Check before you buy. It tells you whether your pick is on the Register of Encumbered Vehicles, i.e. has money owing on it from the previous owner be it from QLD or any other states in Australia. If it does, the relevant creditor may be able to repossess it; a REVS Certificate provides legal protection.
Bear in mind that in 2015 alone, more than 3.7 million vehicles have been registered in QLD, which is a 1.8% increase compared to the previous year, and it would be wise to perform a vehicle or car check prior to committing to a vehicle purchase.
To do your QLD REV Check, all you require is your VIN or Chassis number, engine number and registration number. Which is all well and good, but there’s a lot more information you need before you can be really sure you’re not buying a cleverly disguised lemon.
CarHistory is a part of Veda Group, the largest consumer and credit information bureau in Australia. In addition to a REVs Check we can answer the tricky questions your REVS Check can’t, such as:
In addition to REVS data, our CarHistory reports are based on Government and industry resources including:
As of 2012, we also use the national Personal Property Search Register (PPSR) to help establish whether your used car or any second hand vehicle is a wise purchase. The PPSR brings Territory, State and Commonwealth interests under one umbrella.
CarHistory reports also include a current valuation and sales histories on top of a vehicle check. Environmentally conscious? We provide an ANCAP safety rating, air pollution and greenhouse emissions and an overall green rating.
