All cars on Australian roads must hold a valid registration. Driving an unregistered vehicle can carry large fines and/or license penalties – and may mean a car isn’t covered by compulsory third party (CTP) insurance. Even if you’re driving a car that’s not your own, it’s your responsibility as a driver to make sure that the car is registered with the relevant state authorities in Australia.
It’s important to check the registration details before buying used vehicle. Details about a car can be incorrect whether you’re buying from a dealer or a private seller.
Running an online registration check can help ensure that you won’t incur fines, demerit points for driving an unregistered vehicle, or get a nasty surprise after purchasing a used car.
